It pleased God, Olodumare if you will, to send a god to this land a tad shy of nine decades ago. He has cursed that god by denying him an early return, and blessed him with longevity of life, and the good fortunes of good health and sound mind. Oluwole Akinwande Soyinka, was born 89 years ago, and only a fool would question his deity, even though we might pick quarrels with aspects of his humanity.
Baba has been in the eye of the storm in recent times, but I doubt that Kongi would have it any other way. He gave as good as he got, and I am happy to warrant that he probably drew more mirth from the encounter than he was provoked. I am happy to concede that he has earned the right to be wrong, when he is wrong. Even the gods are allowed to be wrong, and I am unable to think of too many Nigerians, who have earned the right to be wrong.
I ask that Obatala Obatasa, look upon you with uncommon favor, strengthen you in all areas of your body and soul, and I ask that Olodumare bless you with many more years baba. Let it be for the son of Ogun, even as it was for Caleb – be renewed in all aspects of your humanity, and be reborn anew. Ase!
