The constant errors of those who have desired a true nation, have been the insistence on ideological purity, the absence of a unifying vision, and the refusal and or failure to articulate a nationalist vision that is citizen centered, with a composite of the Nigerian citizen, that is the same in content, regardless of ethnicity or religion.
Those who presume to speak for the people, speak over their heads, convinces no one, and almost always, ends up enduring exiles. Some exiles themselves in foreign and saner climes, whilst yet more, remains in internal exile. They exist here, but they don’t live here, a worse fate, than death. Let me leave the “abroad exiles” for now, dem own na special case.
The saddest lot, are the ones who whilst seeing, prefer to believe the evidence of their illusions, for to acknowledge what they are seeing as truth, is to admit that they live in a sick place, in dire need of redemption. For these lot, Lagos is truly working, El-Rufai is a genius, Boko Haram is defeated, BRF, a genius at governance, Tinubu is Awo reborn, Buhari is an incorruptible patriot, and OBJ, is the best thing since sliced bread. Amongst the several lies that they have embraced to normalize the insanity of the truth.
Now, I respect the hustlers. They know the truth. And they are profiting thereby. They know like Fela, that;
“I know say Nigeria go go down
How country go dey make money
Make people of country no see money
Labutu rebete
Rebete labutu” 🎵🎵🎵
They know. But unlike Fela, and the sad lot I have described above, of which you’re probably one, they are profiting from it. They set the stupefied inmates of the captured state against each other, promote ethnic and religious differences, and they remain above the fray, sharing the people’s blood, as revealed by Patience, herself a participant in the canibalistic feast on a nation’s future…. They know.
